Did anyone see the drama documentary The Challenger, about Richard Feynmann’s role in the enquiry into the Challenger space shuttle disaster on BBC2 on Monday night? If so, could you make out what Feynmann (played by William Hurt) was listening to when he got the first phone call from NASA? Mingus?

All I could make out was a saxophone solo (probably alto) punctuated by some punchy chords from the other horns. It was a nice touch of verisimilitude to have the phone go off mid-tune, as would happen in real life, but it didn’t make it any easier to identify the music. Whatever it was, it’s great to know that someone out there in TV land recognises that more than three modern jazz albums (Kind of Blue, A Love Supreme and Time Out) exist.
