Three main events this week:

Monday 18th March.

Blue Monday with Kevin Mackenzie.
Guitarist Mackenzie leads a band of students from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland’s jazz course.
RCS, 7.30pm. £9 (£7 concessions).

Wednesday 20th March.

Tommy Smith’s Karma.
Smith’s excellent jazz-rock band group, with Steve Hamilton on keyboards, Kevin Glasgow on 6-string bass guitar and Alyn Cosker on drums. I’m looking forward to this a lot: Karma the album was excellent, but I’ve never heard the band live. I’d a ticket for last winter’s gig at Stereo, but they had to cancel because one of them was ill.
CCA, Sauchiehall Street, 8pm. £14 (£10 concessions).

Thursday 21st March.

Graeme Stephen Quartet.
Graeme Stephen’s very promising looking new group with Julian Argüelles (saxes), Mario Caribé (bass) and Chris Wallace (drums). What I always find fascinating about Stephen’s guitar playing is the way he manages to combine rock-like use of distortion and effects with jazz volume levels. This is a launch gig for his new album.
Glasgow Art Club, 185 Bath Street, 8pm.  £7 (£5 concessions)
