Jazz in Glasgow this week is dominated by the Glasgow Jazz Festival, which starts on Wednesday. But it also looks like a particularly good week for people through in Edinburgh, where the Jazz Bar in Chambers Street has three particularly promising looking gigs on.

Tonight’s “World Premiere Quintet” is packed with top talent: Colin Steele on trumpet, Konrad Wiszniewski on tenor, up-and-coming star Alan Benzie on piano, Mario Caribé on bass and Bill Kyle on drums.

Tomorrow night it’s the turn of Dumfries-born, New York-based saxophonist Ben Bryden, who’s appearing with his regular band of Reinier Baas (Amsterdam, guitar), Mitch Perrins (New York, drums) and Rob Anstey (London, bass).

On Wednesday 27th, The Jazz Bar hosts Jim Hart’s Cloudmakers Trio, made up of three of the top young players on the London scene: Hart on vibes, Michael Janisch on bass and Dave Smith on drums.

All of these gigs start at 9pm (doors open at 8pm). Information about prices, and about what else is on (and there’s plenty), is on the Jazz Bar website.
