Tonight sees the latest in the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland’s “Blue Monday” series of concerts featuring students from the RCS jazz course working with a guest leader. Tonight’s guest is bassist Mario Caribé and the programme will consist of compositions by some of the youngsters in the band.

This event is also part of the RCS’s “Plug” season, a week of concerts of new music. There are concerts on every lunchtime and evening this week, mainly given over to new works by composition students from the Conservatoire, but also featuring electro-acoustic music composed by Alistair MacDonald and performed by the Scottish Ensemble, a concert of music by Richard Ayres, an evening of music and film, and a collaboration with the Paris Conservatoire. Details can be found on the RCS box office web pages.

Tonight’s jazz performance is at 6.30pm and tickets are £7 with £5 concessions. And look out for next month’s Blue Monday, when the guest performer will be none other than Randy Brecker.
