The online version of Jazzwise magazine has details of some more of the artists who will be appearing at this year’s Glasgow Jazz Festival, although as yet there’s no information about dates and times of the concerts. Acts announced so far are:

  • Ginger Baker’s Jazz Confusion. Ex-Cream drummer in an African-influenced quartet with Pee Wee Ellis on sax, Alec Dankworth on bass and Abbas Dodoo on percussion.
  • George Benson. Best known as a soul-lite singer these days, but can play mean jazz guitar when he wants to.
  • The Robert Glasper Experiment. US pianist’s hip-hop influenced outfit.
  • Soweto Kinch. Top Birmingham sax player and occasional rapper.
  • The Ryan Quigley Big Band playing compositions by the Beatles.
  • Pianist and singer Joe Stilgoe.
  • The Neil Cowley Trio
  • JTQ – the James Taylor Quartet as was. Organ-driven soul bop.
  • Das Kapital. Multinational European sax, guitar and drums trio, who’ll be playing music by Hanns Eisler.

No doubt there is still more to be announced. Details of venues, times and prices will presumably be on the Glasgow Jazz Festival website soon.

This year’s festival runs from Wednesday June 27th to Sunday July 1st.
