Guitarist Mark McKnight is bringing his Organ Quartet, which features the outstanding saxophonist Seamus Blake, to the Griffin Bar on Wednesday night (21st). The band has a very strong line-up: the remaining members are drummer James Maddren and organist Ross Stanley. I haven’t heard this particular combination, but they’re all excellent players individually, so this looks like a “don’t miss” gig. It starts at 8.30pm and, if it’s like other gigs at the Griffin, will be in the side bar in Elmbank Street. Admission seems to be £10.
The concert is part of the launch tour for Mark’s new album “Do or Die”, which is released on Michael Janisch’s Whirlwind Records on the 26th (although I suspect there might be copies available at the gig).
The band will be playing the Blue Lamp in Aberdeen on the 26th, but there’s no Edinburgh performance.
