A couple of things to look out for this weekend, the 9th and 10th of September.
Hot Club meets Western Swing quartet Rose Room launch their debut CD, Somewhere in Roseland, in the Recital Room at Glasgow City Hall on Friday night. The band are made up of violinist and vocalist Seonaid Aitken, bass player Jimmy Moon (better known as a guitar maker) and guitarists Tom Watson and Tam Gallagher. The concert starts at 8pm and tickets cost £12.
North-east of England singer Zoe Gilby and her quintet are undertaking a short Scottish tour this weekend. They’ve got a busy day on Saturday, playing at Brel in Ashton Lane in the afternoon (3pm, free) before going on to the MacRobert Centre at Stirling University in the evening (7.30pm, £12). They’re having a bit of a rest on Sunday, with only one gig, at the Jazz Bar in Edinburgh (9pm, £5).
Here’s a clip of them on home ground at the Gateshead International Jazz Festival last March. Assuming this is the same band as she’s bringing to Scotland, the line-up is Noel Dennis on trumpet/flugelhorn, Mark Williams on guitar, Andy Champion on double bass and Richard Brown on drums.
