Various venues, Kirkcudbright, 16th-19th June 2011
Next weekend, the 16th to 19th of June, sees the 14th Kirkcudbright Jazz Festival, one of the leading traditional jazz events on the UK scene.
Among the acts appearing are:
- Clarinettist Thomas L’Etienne
- Trumpeter Enrico Tomasso
- Western swing outfit Rose Room
- Toronto’s Hot Five Jazzmakers
- The New Century Ragtime Orchestra
Despite being a dirty bopper at heart, I recommend it as a great wee festival in a great wee town. If you’ve got any spare time that weekend, why not go along, listen to some fine jazz, browse in one of the town’s many art galleries, drink some Sulwath beer and eat some Cream o’ Galloway or Urr Valley ice creams and some excellent Loch Arthur cheese? You can even have a meal with jazz accompaniment in some of the local restaurants: I particularly recommend the Selkirk Arms or Kirkpatrick’s.
The full programme, plus details of how to get to the town and where to stay if you want to make a weekend of it, are on the Kirkcudbright Jazz Festival website.
Here’s the sort of stuff they’ve got lined up:
