The finalists for this year’s Young Scottish Jazz Musician of the Year competition have been announced.
- Pete Johnstone, piano
- Ru Pattison, alto
- Brodie Jarvie, bass
- Kevin Garrity, trombone
- John Lowrie, drums
The final is on Wednesday 29 June at the Old Fruitmarket. It starts at 8pm and costs £5. It usually sells out, so it’s probably worth getting a ticket in advance if you’re planning to go. You can do so on the Glasgow Concert Halls web site. I’ve heard all of the nominees except Ru Pattison, and they’re fine players. It should be a good night.
If you want an idea of the likely standard, The Jazz House this week has a very impressive session by last year’s winner, tenor player John Fleming. It will be available online until Sunday 12th.
