If you’re interested in entering the Young Scottish Jazz Musician of the Year competition, you’ll need to move fast as nominations close on Monday 28th March. You apply by submitting a 3-minute recording and an application form.

If your recording makes it through the initial weeding out, the semi-final takes place in the Queen’s Hall in Edinburgh on May 29th. Those who make it to the final get to perform at the Old Fruitmarket on June 29th in a Glasgow International Jazz Festival concert which will also be broadcast live on The Jazz House on Radio Scotland.

Previous winners of the contest include Alan Benzie, Joe Wright and John Fleming.

This year, for the first time, there’s an under-17 category (the Young Young Jazz Musician of the Year?) as well as the main competition for musicians aged 23 and under.

Full details and application form on the Scottish Jazz Federation website.
