Brass Jaw are scheduled to play a free open air gig on the stage in George Square tonight. It’s the Glasgow launch gig for their new, excellent CD Branded and is being put on as part of the “Glasgow Loves Christmas” festival. Given the sub-zero temperature, I’d check the band’s web site or Twitter feed to make sure it’s still on, but at the time of writing (mid-morning) it seems to be going ahead. If you go, make sure you wrap up warm. The band are due on stage at 5pm. I can’t help thinking they ought to change their name to Brass Monkey for this gig.
Liane Carroll and Brian Kellock
Singer Liane Carroll and piano giant Brian Kellock are at the Strathclyde Suite in the Royal Concert Hall on Tuesday night. It’s billed as a Christmas Concert, and we’re promised “special guests”. Brian Kellock is, in my opinion, one of the half-dozen top jazz pianists in Britain, and you shouldn’t pass up any opportunity to hear him. Liane Carroll’s not bad either. It starts at 8pm and tickets cost £12. Oh, and you can hear excerpts from Kellock’s forthcoming trio album on the Thick-Skinned Productions web site. It’s due out early next year.
Andy Mears Orchestra
Finally, on Wednesday 22nd, the Andy Mears Orchestra are playing “the finest in Big Band and swing music” at the Village theatre in East Kilbride. There are two shows, a 2.30pm matinee and a 7.30 evening show. Tickets are £14.
