I had planned to go to hear Alan Barnes with Ken Mathieson’s Classic Jazz Orchestra last Sunday, but when I went to buy my ticket several days beforehand, the show was already sold out. Good news for the musicians and promoter, bad news for me. According to Alison Kerr’s review in the Herald, it was excellent.
Claire Teal’s concert a couple of nights before was also sold out. This time, Alison Kerr was a lot less enthusiastic (and I gather she doesn’t like the Recital Room much).
A couple of recent interviews in the Scottish press with jazz musicians are worth flagging up:
- Tommy Smith in the Herald, mainly talking about the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra’s new Torah album, which came out this week.
- Martin Taylor in the Scotsman, mainly talking about the relaunch of his Spirit of Django band.
