If you’re not doing anything this holiday weekend, why not pop over to Rothesay where the 23rd Bute Jazz, Rhythm and Blues Festival runs from Friday 30th April to Monday 3rd May? Star attraction is The Big Chris Barber Band, who are playing in Rothesay Pavilion Hall on Sunday night. Also in the festival: a Bobby Wishart group; Django tributes from Swing Guitars and Keith Stephen’s Hot Club Trio; trad jazz from Penman’s Jazzmen (George Penman’s Jazzmen continuing after George’s death) and Phil Mason’s New Orleans All-Stars; and local acts The Tim Saul Modern Jazz Trio and Academy Swing (the Bute schools big band). You can buy tickets for individual concerts, or purchase Rover tickets for a day or for the entire weekend. Details of the gigs, plus information about how to get to the island and where to eat and sleep once you’re there are on the Bute Jazz Festival website.
