This week’s edition of Jazz Line-Up on Radio Three featured a couple of sets from the Jazz Bar in Edinburgh. First up is a set from a Jazz Bar Quartet made up of David Partick (who seems to be Bobby Wellins’ Scottish pianist of choice), Young Scottish Jazz Musician of the Year winner Andy Robb on bass, alto saxophonist Sam Coombs and Jazz Bar owner Bill Kyle on drums.

The second set is one led by German bassist Martin Zenker, Professor of Jazz Double Bass at the University of Seoul, in a quartet with Stefan Maus (sax) and Buggy Braune (piano), from Hamburg, and Korean drummer Lee Jongheun.

Is it just me, or was JLU dominated by bland middle-of-the-road stuff when it was on at a listenable time on Saturday afternoons, but much better now that it’s on at Stupid O’Clock on a Sunday night, when it’s difficult for those of us who work 9 to 5 Monday to Friday to hear?

Fortunately, you can listen again on the BBC iPlayer for the next few days.
