Tenor player Konrad Wiszniewski’s Quartet are putting on a “special festive concert full of good cheer and great music” at the Recital Room in the City Halls on Saturday 19th. It looks like a very good line-up, with Paul Harrison on piano, Jazz Journal cover star Michael Janisch on bass, and Stu Ritchie on drums. We’re also promised guest appearances from Konrad’s fellow Brass Jaw members Paul Towndrow and Ryan Quigley. Tickets are available online from the Glasgow Concert Halls site.

Apparently there will also be a few “festive surprises”. Douglas T. Stewart, lead singer of the BMX Bandits, handed out free homemade biscuits to the audience at their Christmas gig at the Captain’s Rest last weekend. Will Konrad be spending Saturday afternoon in the kitchen rustling up mince pies?

There’s more about this gig, and the band’s Sunday night performance at The Lot in Edinburgh in The List. There’s also an interview with Konrad in The Herald.

The quartet will also be recording a live session for The Jazz House, to be broadcast on Wednesday 23rd (and repeated on Sunday 27th).
